Long Photo technology will be introduced at PHOTOFORUM 2009 exhibition for the first time

The visitors will be able to admire the “coming alive” pictures of the best Russian and foreign masters, including Long Photo video clips from famous movies, which were shot according to photography rules.

Long photo is a short video fragment, shot according to the rules of photographic art. As a result, a static picture becomes alive. For instance, a model on a portrait is hardly breathing, pedestrians walk on a general city view, the beat of waves is heard on a beach. “Frozen” pictures seem to acquire new dimension. By the way, each fragment of Long Photo may last from several minutes to several hours.

From a technical point of view, Long Photo appeared last year thanks to employees from popular website Flickr. They allowed photographers to put out short video fragments to the web. Well, but static video and shooting appeared long before it. We can give the first experimental film “Sleep” by Andy Warhol (1963) as an example, where you can see his lover John Jorno, sleeping in the shot for almost six hours. Warhol went on making static filming, which seemed to expose reality. It is the effect you get while observing Long Photo.

Music and sound are the main parts of Long Photo. If musical score of Long Photo is soft, as if it spread accents and meaning, then the sound, shot together with the picture, quite the opposite, adds sense to the scene.
